MĂNĂSTIREA FRANCISCANĂ DIN ȘUMULEU CIUC ǀ FRANCISCAN MONASTERY IN SUMULEU CIUC
Even if you are from a different religion or confession, it is worth visiting the Franciscan monastery in Șumuleu Ciuc. The Franciscan monastery from Sumuleu Ciuc was built by Iancu de Hunedoara in 1443. It was demolished in 1802 and rebuilt between 1804-1835 in neoclassical style but with obvious baroque influences. The church bears the dedication of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul, is made in Baroque style and has one of the largest organ installations in Romania. Next to it is a baroque altar and a statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary with the Child. Also here are kept rare books, cult objects, incunabula. The Franciscan monastery from Sumuleu Ciuc is the place where hundreds of thousands of Roman-Catholic believers gather annually for Pentecost to take part in religious ceremonies on this occasion.
